Friendly cheap hotelPost on 2014-09-03

  • Situated just off the city centre close to the underground. Rooms are very clean, Staff can speak English and very friendly, helpful. The atmoshere is great but of course don't expect luxury. If you need cheap, clean accommodation close to everything this is the péace for you.

  • We found this to be an ideal place to stay in Beijing. We liked the idea of being in a smaller hotel in a hutong, and 161 had just the right blend of modernity and personal attention. The staff were always friendly and helpful, and happy to suggest places to eat and generally provide advice for anything that we asked about. The area was convenient for the metro and was our oasis in the megalopolis of Beijing.

  • 161 hotel has a great location. Third floor rooms are the best. Good bathroom and air conditioning. Coffee Shop open from 7am until late. Subway station 200m from hotel. Fare is 2 yuan anywhere. Ideal to go to Beijing West station for Bullet Train. Staff are friendly with tour desk in hotel. Also is pickup point for day tours.

    soonshine Conveniently located hotel

Conveniently located hotel in a hutong, within a 5 minute walk from the metro station. Room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed although the only drawback was carpet floors. Staff were friendly and helpful in arranging tours (e.g. Great Wall of China) at a reasonable price. Neat upstairs cafe/bar and outside patio area for lounging. A decent selection of restaurants and stores on the same street for meals and late night snacks.

    Susa029 Perfect location.

Excellent location. In a Hutong so really part of old Beijing but was in walking distance from Forbidden City etc and shopping streets, very near a subway, supermarket, restaurants. Good coffee bar but not Chinese prices! Very casual, friendly atmosphere. Will do washing and drying for 60 Yuan (£6).Make sure you have cash to pay for the hotel when you arrive, in Yuan. We were charged on a card, in pounds sterling with a very poor exchange rate and think it cost us an extra £50. Not better than the Rock and Wood in Shanghai which cost less than half as much. Didn't have any wardrobe or hanging space and not much room to have suitcases open to live out of. En suite good but our carpet was absolutely filthy, with large stains. Didn't like walking on it .
